Dimitri van den Bergh has broke new ground on the European Tour by reaching his maiden semi-final by defeating UK Open finalist Michael Smith 6-3 at the German Darts Championship.
Neither player was at their best but Van den Bergh held the edge hitting an 87 average, two 180's and a high checkout of 106 despite only hitting 28.6% of his doubles.
He broke to go 3-1 up with a 68 checkout with Smith sat back at 25 and followed that up consolidating with a 106 checkout after Smith had just hit a 180 to pressure.
This proved the catalyst as Van den Bergh went on to seal it 6-3 and now he will face Michael van Gerwen who received a bye through due to Peter Wright's withdrawal.
Likely the favourite, Van den Bergh will know he will need to produce a better display to see off Mighty Mike.
