Dimitri Van den Bergh made an excellent start to the World Matchplay. 'The Dreammaker' defeated Ross Smith 10-8 in his opening match.
After the match, Van den Bergh was asked if he was happy that Michael van Gerwen is already out of the tournament. After all, Van den Bergh could never win against his Dutch rival in a ranking tournament. "Every time I play him, it doesn't matter how good I play, he just always knows how to come out on top," said the 29-year-old Belgian.
"My Grandma messaged me yesterday. She said, 'with that green guy out of the tournament, how about you can go and do it now?'"
"I was like 'Grandma, I really like how funny you are, but what about everyone else!' They are all so good," Van den Bergh said. "Maybe some day I'd like to be like her, just don't think about everyone else, just about what you can do."
