Vincent van der Voort had to leave the PDC World Darts Championship early this year after a positive COVID-19 test. However, he could not appreciate Barry Hearn's comments on this at all.
"I couldn't believe it when I had tested positive, after all I had absolutely no symptoms," Van der Voort said. "But you've been away from your family so many times and then you have to leave the tournament in such a way, I really didn't see it for a while."
PDC president Barry Hearn then said in an interview that it was Van der Voort's own fault. "That seriously hit home with me, after all, he had no idea what he was talking about. Afterwards I struggled with motivation problems and doubted whether it made sense to continue."
Ambition
Still, the 46-year-old Dutchman does not want to give up. "I am currently doing everything to become better than I ever was. I had been working on my condition and also spend many hours at the practice board. I'm looking forward to next year to go for it all over again."
