Vincent van der Voort is the next player into the Quarter-Finals at the European Championship with victory over Chris Dobey. The former UK Open finalist reached his first PDC ranked major quarter-final since the World Grand Prix 2015.
Van der Voort pounced on poor missed doubles from his opponent to claim victory in an excellent performance and with the field being blown wide open, could it be The Dutch Destroyer’s time?
The Dutchman started proceedings brilliantly racing into a 4-1 lead over Dobey by the interval pouncing on multiple darts at doubles from ‘Hollywood’.
Dobey returned from the interval and smashed in a 150 checkout to trail 4-2 and potentially ask the question of The Dutch Destroyer. His doubles were blighting him though with him down at 2/9 which allowed Van der Voort to move 5-2 up.
A 110 checkout saw him go 6-2 up and potentially go on the verge of the Quarter-Finals. This was confounded with him 7-3 up at the next interval. A theme of this tie was that when Dobey countered back, Van der Voort stormed further clear. He went 9-5 up after further missed darts from Dobey and he concluded the tie from there to move through.
