Van der Voort on Van Gerwen's effect after reaching European Championship Quarter-Finals: 'He encouraged me not to give up'

Van der Voort discussed the effect his close friend Michael van Gerwen has had on him in his post match interview and said that he was going to give up but MVG talked him round.

'The Dutch Destroyer' said that as a result he is going to give it all he's got to reach the top again in five years and it seems to be working for him with his results in Gottingen.

“In August I was debating whether to carry on playing, I had a long talk with Michael [van Gerwen] about it and he encouraged me not to give up,” Van der Voort revealed.

“So I decided that for these next five years I'm going to give it everything I’ve got to get myself back to the top.

“Before I was just turning up and playing, now I’m here because I want to win and perform.”
