Jules van Dongen and Roy van de Griendt joined the last 32 at the German Darts Open in Jena. Van Dongen, a Dutchman currently living in the United States, had another good performance.
Van Dongen has come out of the summer break strong and can now dream of qualifying for the PDC World Darts Championship. In pursuit of World Championship qualification, 'The Dutch Dragon' recorded an important victory over Connor Scutt on Friday afternoon.
Van Dongen led 3-1 via a 104 finish and a 13-darter, but Scutt came back to 3-3 with 76 and 64 finishes. Van Dongen hit back with a 12-darter and then took the win via tops and a 68 finish. Van Dongen will take on Josh Rock in the second round on Saturday.
Van de Griendt graced the stage for his Euro Tour debut with a victory over Danny Tessmann. In a mediocre match, in which both players threw below an eighty average, Van de Griendt drew the longest straw 6-3. The reward for Van de Griendt is a clash with Dirk van Duijvenbode in the second round.
