As the
European Tour and the
German Darts Grand Prix continued, both
Dirk van Duijvenbode and
Keane Barry safely secured passage into the final day's play tomorrow with wins over
Callan Rydz and
Rob Cross in Munich.
In what was expected to be one of the ties of the round, 7th seed Dirk van Duijvenbode took on Callan Rydz. It was the Dutchman who began the better of the two, successfully holding throw in the opening leg before firing in a 180 to leave 7, which he would duly checkout for a 2-0 lead.
As Rydz began to grow into the match-up he kept in touch with van Duijvenbode at 2-1 and 3-2. However after the Englishman passed up two oppourtunities to level the game, the Titan punished to break throw and regain his two-leg advantage.
Rydz refused to go away though, breaking straight back in the seventh leg with a ruthless 104 checkout. More missed darts at double from Rydz meant he wasn't able to level up at 4 apiece leaving him visibly frustrated at the back of the stage as van Duijvenbode moved a leg away from victory with the Dutchman securing a 6-3 win a few moments later.
Next up it was 'Dynamite' Keane Barry up against the 3rd seed, Rob Cross. With Cross still searching for his first Euro Tour title win, it was his opponent who took the opening leg on double 10. Voltage instantly hit back with a hold of his own in leg two before Barry continued the run of comfortable holds of throw to nudge back in front.
After Cross saw three clear darts at double top come and go in leg four, Barry pounced with a ruthless 107 checkout to stretch his lead to two legs. A brilliant set up shot for Barry left himself 32 and put all the pressure on Cross's 170 attempt. He couldn't take it out allowing the Irishman to return and hold throw.
Finishing 127 on the bullseye, Cross kept himself in touching distance an roared to the crowd, trying to get himself fired-up. More brilliant set-up from Barry left himself on tops and after Cross couldn't take out 114, Dynamite was there to clean up and move a leg away from the match. Cross kept himself alive with a 12-dart hold but it turned out to be nothing more than a consolation, Barry a 6-3 winner.
