Van Gerwen accepts ambassador role for Modern Amateur Darts (MAD)

Michael van Gerwen is going to actively dedicate himself to the improvement of amateur darts. The 3-time world champion has taken on the role of ambassador for Modern Amateur Darts (MAD), the organisation of which he is also a shareholder.

After the demise of the British Darts Organisation (BDO), MAD was founded by darts player Steve Brown to boost the amateur branch of darts. An ambitious project that steps into the void of the failing BDO, this is how the plans were described.

Meanwhile a lot of famous darts players have given their support to this new organisation. Also Bobby George, Paul Nicholson, Raymond van Barneveld, Mark Webster, Phil Taylor, Darryl Fitton and Vincent van der Voort have indicated their support for the plans of Modern Amateur Darts.

Some of these players even have a board function in the organisation of MAD. Nicholson is non-executive director for MAD Global, while Van der Voort has the same function for MAD Benelux.

Van Gerwen, in his capacity as ambassador of MAD Global, will act as an intermediary between MAD Global and MAD Benelux. Last weekend he and Van der Voort visited some venues in the Netherlands to see if these locations can host MAD tournaments in the future. More information about the plans of MAD Benelux will be announced soon.
