Van Gerwen becomes King of New York with relentless whitewash win over Jeff Smith in US Darts Masters Final

Fresh from lifting his seventh Premier League Darts crown, the winning form continues for Michael van Gerwen with the Green Machine becoming the first player to win the US Darts Masters in both Las Vegas and New York.

Van Gerwen scooped the £20,000 top prize and claimed an 18th World Series of Darts title as a result of defeating Jeff Smith 8-0 in the final.

But it nearly ended at the semi-final stage for Van Gerwen. He saw off Jim Long in the Quarter-Finals 6-2 before having to come from 6-4 down to see off Rob Cross.

He defied checkouts of 170 and 122 from the former World Champion and recent European Tour winner to seal a remarkable win. Cross wired the bull for a 167 finish and Van Gerwen snatched it.

But in the final, it was much more smooth sailing as he eased past The Silencer. He sealed a 103 checkout to start the tie with a 12-darter and after missed darts from Smith, Van Gerwen pounced to surge into a 5-0 lead.

Smith squandered more to open his account and was not given another dart at double as MVG romped to victory.
