A brilliant weekend for former Lakeside finalist
Jeff Smith was capped off by the Canadian taking his second
North American Darts Championship title.
"It feels good. Winning in Las Vegas was special, but to win in New York - this is unreal," said Smith, who defeated Jim Long and Jules van Dongen before taking the title in a thrilling final against fellow Canadian, Matt Campbell. "I think this is the venue for North American darts. We had a ton of support here, it's unbelievable."
With the event being held at the iconic Madison Square Gardens, Smith has been given new found confidence by performing to such a high level on such a big stage. "I have played well all year, just without any results, so I needed a confidence-booster and this is definitely a confidence-booster!"
And with the World Cup of Darts on the horizon things look good for the Canadian pair. "Matt pounds you on the treble 20 and if you don't stay with him, you're not getting chances. That's how good that guy is," praises Smith. "He will be a top 16 player in the PDC. I 100% believe that, and I cannot wait to partner him in the World Cup of Darts in a couple of weeks."
