Michael van Gerwen advanced to the Quarter-Finals at the
World Series of Darts Finals in Amsterdam with a hard-fought victory over
Maik Kuivenhoven (6-4).
The first five legs went all with the darts, giving Van Gerwen a 3-2 lead going into the break. After the break Mighty Mike immediately broke his compatriot with an 82 finish and then hit a 13-dart leg for 5-2.
Van Gerwen then failed to finish it off with two match darts on tops, after which Kuivenhoven suddenly came back to 5-4. Kuivenhoven even had six chances to make it 5-5, but missed them all. After that it was Van Gerwen who took out 25 to book his first ever victory over Kuivenhoven after two earlier defeats.
Dirk van Duijvenbode was unable to pull off a shock against reigning world champion
Gerwyn Price. Aubergenius won the first leg, but then missed several darts on the doubles in the second and third to maintain the lead. This gave Price a 2-1 lead and he then threw three good legs to make it 5-1. Van Duijvenbode threw a 13-dart leg to win the seventh leg, before Price secured the win with a 13-darter.
Van Gerwen plays Mervyn King in the Quarter-Finals on Sunday afternoon, while Price faces his fellow countryman Jonny Clayton. Niels Zonneveld is the second Dutchman who's left in the tournament and he meets Krzysztof Ratajski. The last Quarter-Final is between Dimitri van den Bergh and Kim Huybrechts.
