Michael van Gerwen has reached the semi-finals during the 14th round of the
Premier League Darts in Manchester with an important 6-2 victory over
Gerwyn Price.
The 34-year-old Dutchman had lost his last five matches with his Welsh rival. With this victory, Van Gerwen keeps first place in the rankings in his sights.
Price remains stuck on 33 points as a result of his defeat, while Van Gerwen has halved his four-point deficit to reach at least 31 points. The Dutchman also has the opportunity to catch up completely if he reaches the final. In case of a week title in Manchester, Van Gerwen even takes over the top spot from Price.
In the semi-finals, Van Gerwen will take on Michael Smith. The Englishman beat Michael Smith/Nathan Aspinall with 6-3. In the back of the rankings, Chris Dobey recorded a 6-2 win over Dimitri van den Bergh. However, both men were no longer competing for places in the play-offs. Dobey faces Jonny Clayton in the last four, as he knocked out Peter Wright earlier in the evening.
