Michael van Gerwen has claimed his first World Series title of the year in the form of the Melbourne Darts Masters and to break his duck in the events as a result.
He defeated Daryl Gurney in an 8-3 win with the scoreline not painting the whole picture in Australia with 'Superchin' playing well in defeat.
This was shown with Van Gerwen only averaging 99 and hitting one 180 compared to 101 and 6 from Gurney but it was the finishing that made the difference with MVG hitting 7/18.
It started quite level between the pair to begin the tie but Van Gerwen took a 3-1 lead which was soon dispelled by Gurney with hit a 72 checkout to tie it up and give a real game.
MVG did what he did best though and that was hit the right scores at the right times despite him not looking like he was back towards his best yet and mistakes from Gurney gave him an almost insurmountable lead.
He went 6-3 in front in clinical fashion giving Gurney a huge mountain to climb and one that he couldn't scale with Van Gerwen claiming a 13th
World Series title in a major confidence boost for the World Number One.
