Michael Van Gerwen produced a vintage display with a 7-4 win over Jose de Sousa as the Premier League action continued.
Van Gerwen hit seven 180’s and a high checkout of 125 which was a sign of things to come. He spoke afterwards reflecting on his display which was mixed emotions.
“I’m happy with the performance especially the first ten or 11 legs but after that, I struggled a bit because I wanted to get the win over the line and I made it too difficult and I shouldn’t put myself in that position,” said Van Gerwen post match.
“My game I think it’s around a seven and a half, maybe eight because I think although it was a good performance, on the last few legs a few darts on my doubles here or there but that’s part of it as well and I think in this stage of my career and after tonight I shouldn’t be too disappointed.”
He was also asked about over celebrating on stage and he said he only does it when it’s appropriate.
“I do it because when I play well, it comes out automatically and it’s not that I’m going to celebrate with a hundred. No I only do it when I really matters and it’s not that you do it on purpose.”
