Michael van Gerwen takes on Simon Whitlock on Saturday evening during the Quarter-Finals of the
World Grand Prix. The Dutchman still has a bone to pick with his upcoming opponent.
Whitlock caused an upset at the World Matchplay in July by beating the world number one. Van Gerwen was struggling with his form at that time, but is returning to form now. The 31-year-old made a good impression in his first two matches against Krzysztof Ratajski and Devon Petersen.
He wants to continue this against Whitlock. "Simon is a good player but I owe him one after the World Matchplay. I have to make sure I play with the same intensity and confidence. I feel comfortable and I can build on this'', Van Gerwen told the PDC.
The three-time world champion made a lot of practice hours ahead of the World Grand Prix. He especially practiced his doubles, as legs at this tournament need to be started with a double as well. "I've been putting a lot of work into my game in the last few weeks and I think it's working out. You never lose your ability but you need to make sure your focus is right'', he added.
