Van Gerwen confident ahead of Aspinall Quarter-Final clash: "He fears me more than I fear him, I'm coming for him"

Michael van Gerwen reached the Quarter-Finals of the World Matchplay for the first time since 2017 on Wednesday night seeing off Ian White at the Winter Gardens.

Van Gerwen being always a perfectionist wasn't fully happy with his game and knows he has to improve next up.

"I felt a lot better than my first game but still not good enough. I know there's still a lot of work to do and more to fight for but I know what I'm capable of," said Van Gerwen post match.

Confidence ahead of Aspinall clash

Despite Aspinall turning the tide ever so slightly as of late in his poor head to head record against Van Gerwen, the Green Machine is confident ahead of their Quarter-Final clash.

"I think he fears me more than I fear him. I need to believe in my own ability, the format's going to get longer which suits me more, that's what I prefer but you still have to do it on the stage."

"I like Nathan a lot but he also knows I'm coming for him. I will do anything in my power to make it as hard as possible and I feel good, I feel comfortable. I need to make sure the right focus is on the game."

"My wife won't let me in the house before Monday anyway so I better win my games."
