Van Barneveld exits the Premier League tonight having not qualified for the second phase but the reception he got meant that despite the defeat he went out on some sort of a high.
For Van Gerwen though despite his admiration for Barney will know that he had a job to do and he did just that.
He started out the contest as he meant to go on hitting a 13 darter to take the first leg hitting a 180 along the way.
It started to look ominous for Barney in the early going as he watched Van Gerwen go 4-0 up with a 95 average over 20 points more than his opponent at that point and despite not being at his best, MVG was still producing the goods.
Van Barneveld finally got off the mark but that was as good as it got with MVG claiming the win with ease to end Barney's swansong.
