Van Gerwen 'gutted' with World Series Finals defeat: "I started slowly and that was costly"

Michael van Gerwen was easily beaten by Jonny Clayton in the semi-finals of the World Series of Darts Finals over the weekend.

Playing in front of a home crowd, Van Gerwen took to social media to reveal his disappointment at defeat as well as his plans to play this week's Super Series being confirmed.

"I’m gutted I didn’t win in front of the amazing Dutch fans this weekend. Credit to Jonny Clayton who was brilliant all match. I started slowly and that was costly. I have made improvements this week and will go again on the Pro Tours this week. But again thank you to the fans," said Van Gerwen on Twitter.
