Van Gerwen hits 109 average in ominous win over Wade, Hughes reaches maiden TV Quarter-Final with victory over Suljovic

The next Quarter-Finalists are confirmed at the 2020 UK Open with Michael van Gerwen and Jamie Hughes both into the final day at Minehead.

It seems as if the chance to beat Van Gerwen might have been and gone with Jason Lowe; as he produced what was a potentially ominous victory over James Wade.

This included a 109 average from the World Number One who looked to be back towards his best; with this also flanked by six 180's and 71 percent on his doubles as he eased past 'The Machine' in a 10-4 win.

Wade's only real highlights came from a brilliant 141 checkout to close the gap to 5-2; but by the next break Van Gerwen was 7-3 up and after the gap was cut to 7-4, he romped home to victory. Will Mighty Mike claim his first title of 2020? He could looking at this performance.

Hughes on the otherhand is into his first ever TV Quarter-Final. 'Yozza' who is of course a PDC Ranking winner claiming a European Tour event in 2019 in the form of the Czech Darts Open. He looks to be back towards his best which he showed in that title win which gleamed him a spot in the World Matchplay.

The Tipton ace saw off Mensur Suljovic in a commanding 10-5 victory over on Stage Two to continue his excellent weekend. Could Hughes be a dark horse tomorrow for the title?
