Van Gerwen looks to return to winners circle in Coventry: “I need to stop making mistakes”

Michael van Gerwen will look to return to the winners circle this weekend at the Players Championship Finals when he defends his title.

Van Gerwen hasn’t won a title on TV since the last Minehead based tournament in the UK Open but it’ll be under different circumstances this year being staged in Coventry.

For ‘Mighty Mike’ though it’s just all about returning to winning ways this time around.

"I know I am playing better but winning is a habit, and I need to get that habit back," Van Gerwen explained.

"I know I'm close to winning these tournament again, I need to stop making mistakes.

"My focus is on defending this title, I'm not looking past this tournament.

"The defeat to Simon [Whitlock] last week in the Grand Slam hurt, but it was great to be able to spend some extra time at home with my family."
