Michael van Gerwen is through to the third round of the 2022/23 PDC
World Darts Championship after thrashing Lewy Williams in a 3-0 sets win losing only one leg in the opening set in a whitewash win.
Van Gerwen averaged 101.84 with three 180's and 50% on the outer ring with Williams unable to send any resolve to the prowess of the Green Machine who underlines his credentials as the favourite for the tournament.
It was a superb start for Van Gerwen who sealed a 13-dart break. Williams missed two darts to break himself and Van Gerwen hit double 20 to go one away from the set.
Williams missed a dart to hold but MVG couldn’t pin 113 so the former returned to hit double four and get his first leg on the board.
MVG missed darts for the set but Williams was back on 143 so his slim chance wasn’t pounced upon and the Dutchman went into the break having hit double one.
Van Gerwen hit a second 180 and double eight. A 94 checkout using bull – double 16 saw MVG to the brink and he followed that with another 94 checkout.
A third 180 and 72 checkout saw MVG saw him break to begin the third set. A 52 checkout to hold saw him go one away from the victory. That was sealed on double 10.
