Gabriel Clemens has joined Florian Hempel in the third round at the 2022/23 PDC World Darts Championship after a superb display from 'The German Giant' who eased past William O'Connor in a straight sets win.
Clemens produced a 95 average, four 180's and high checkouts of 131 and a superb 132 using two bullseyes. He will now face James Wade or Jim Williams.
Both exchanged holds with Clemens hitting 84 on double 12. This continued with O’Connor hitting double 20 for 2-1.
Clemens missed 96 on double nine to hold but 70 was missed by O’Connor which allowed the former back for double nine at 2-2.
O’Connor missed two for the set off 87 and Clemens sealed the set on double 18. He opened the second set surviving break darts but pinned double 20 to hold.
Clemens hit a 62 checkout to go one away holding the throw for 2-0 in sets. O’Connor broke with a 74 checkout to make it 2-1.
A 180 and double eight saw O’Connor send it the distance. A 131 checkout on double 16 saw Clemens make it 2-0 in sets.
Clemens missed 104 on double 12 to break but returned for double six to begin the third set. He went one away with 132 using two bullseyes.
He missed multiple match darts but was afforded more opportunities and finally took it on double three.
