Michael van Gerwen has moved up to second place on the
World Series Order of Merit after winning the Queensland Darts Masters on Saturday.
The Dutchman brought his total up to 24 points, and now only has Dimitri van den Bergh in front of him. The Belgian, who won the World Series tournaments in Copenhagen and Amsterdam, leads the ranking with 27 points.
Michael Smith dropped to third place. The Englishman lost surprisingly in the quarter finals to Gordon Mathers on Saturday. The Australian eventually lost in the semi-finals and therefore enters the World Series Order of Merit on the tenth place.
Losing finalist Gerwyn Price climbed from the sixth to the fourth place, while James Wade lost two places and is now fifth. Gary Anderson, Peter Wright and Dirk van Duijvenbode, the numbers six to eight on the rankings, are all absent during the treble-header in Australia and New Zealand. That offers opportunities for number nine Fallon Sherrock, or the shared numbers ten Mathers, Joe Cullen and Jonny Clayton, to move up on the ranking.
