Simon Whitlock produced a phenomenal display to ease past
Michael van Gerwen and reach the
World Grand Prix semi-finals.
Whitlock had an average of over 100 and will now face off against Dirk van Duijvenbode in the semi-finals.
This is something that while Van Gerwen didn't anticipate, he had to applaud: "I didn't even play that bad myself, but Simon was great tonight, I haven't seen him play better often. From the beginning I was under pressure and I couldn't answer that", said 'MVG' to RTL 7.
"I failed on the doubles myself, but most of all kudos to him", Van Gerwen continued.
He also took to his Twitter echoing the same sentiments: "Always disappointed not to win and not retain my title this week. On reflection I don’t believe I played bad tonight. A few missed doubles cost me.
Full credit to Simon I think that’s one of the best games I’ve seen him play."
