Michael van Gerwen saw a remarkable run come to an end on Monday night. Until his match against Glen Durrant, the five-time Premier League champion never had an average below 90 in
Premier League Darts.
That came to an end on Monday after a run of eight years, as Van Gerwen averaged 87.63 against Durrant. That was mainly due to missing too many doubles, as Mighty Mike missed 22 darts on the doubles in this match. Nevertheless Van Gerwen won the match 7-3.
His previous lowest average dated back to his debut year in the Premier League Darts in 2013. At the time he recorded an average of 90.74 in his match against Adrian Lewis.
Earlier in this Premier League Van Gerwen almost hit an average below 90 already. He averaged 90.91 points per turn in his match against James Wade. That became fatal for him, because the left-hander managed to beat the Dutchman.
