Van Gerwen sees off Anderson to set up semi-final clash with Wright in Melbourne

Michael van Gerwen is the second player through to the semi-finals at Melbourne Darts Masters after edging past Gary Anderson in a quality affair.

Van Gerwen has gone out at the Quarter-Final stage in most events on the World Series as of late and so will look to break his hoodoo in these events after seeing off Anderson.

'Mighty Mike' had a brilliant start opening up with back-to-back 180s and finished it off with an 11-darter to break throw immediately. Despite that though Anderson broke back after MVG missed three darts at doubles.

Once again though there was another break of throw with MVG hitting a 66 finish to edge 2-1 ahead. Van Gerwen extended his lead to 3-1 but again he was pegged back; this theme continued with Anderson hitting the bull in a 79 finish to make it 3-3.

Costly darts cost Anderson as MVG moved 4-3 ahead and he made it a two leg lead with six perfect darts to make it 5-3. Van Gerwen missed darts at doubles this time and Anderson stayed in touch at 5-4 behind.

Van Gerwen continued to go two ahead before getting pegged back but he finally went one away from victory and this gave Anderson an uphill battle and one that he couldn't complete as MVG moved through.
