Michael van Gerwen returned to the winners' circle on the
European Tour for the first time since 2019 in seeing off Rob Cross 8-5 in the final of the
German Darts Championship.
Van Gerwen survived his fair share of scares throughout the tournament with match darts from Dimitri van den Bergh going begging and he had to fight back from 4-1 down in the final.
"I've been working for this for a really long time and it means a lot to me," said Van Gerwen.
"To win a [European Tour] tournament again feels absolutely phenomenal. I keep fighting and I never give up. I'm not done yet!
"Everyone knows I love to play tournaments in Germany - the crowds have been absolutely fantastic, and it means the world."
