Michael van Gerwen will face
Jonny Clayton shortly in the final of Night Five of 2023
Premier League Darts action from Westpoint in Exeter as he looks to go back-to-back in the weekly roadshow.
Van Gerwen secured his spot in the final after a superb 6-4 win over Nathan Aspinall in the opening semi-final. He claimed it with a superb 11-darter producing an 83 checkout to deny 'The Asp'.
This after Aspinall initially went 3-1 up on Mighty Mike but he messed up on 65 hitting the bull which allowed MVG a route in which he took to go 3-2 down and missed darts at double began to creep in and MVG made it 3-3.
Aspinall regained the upperhand at 4-3 but MVG went one away at 5-4 hitting double three to go towards the finishing line before a brilliant surge in the final leg claimed it.
While Clayton awaits who saw off Dimitri van den Bergh 6-2 in the second semi-final. It is a first final of the season for the 2022 league phase and 2021 champion who swept them up for fun last season.
But recent form suggests that he could be heading back towards his best. His doubling showcased that early on as he hit a 96 checkout to go 2-1 up before making it 4/4 with a 116 at 4-2 up.
He missed two match darts at 5-2 but Van den Bergh missed two at double 16 off 89 and Clayton returned for the win.
