Van Gerwen claims back-to-back Premier League night wins with Exeter win over Clayton

Michael van Gerwen will head into the UK Open in Minehead tomorrow off the back of consecutive Premier League Darts night wins after seeing off Jonny Clayton to strengthen his table topping form in the weekly roadshow.

Van Gerwen saw off 'The Ferret' in his first final of the season 6-3 in Exeter and adds to glory last week in Dublin where he saw off another Welshman in Gerwyn Price.

In command from the very start, Van Gerwen took control with a 2-0 lead before hitting a second 180 and double 16 for 3-0.

Clayton got into the tie with a 13-darter for 3-1 but Van Gerwen continued to stretch his lead to 4-1.

Clayton made in-roads towards a potential comeback making it 4-3 after Van Gerwen missed four darts at doubles to hold but as ever MVG shut the door in his face.

He hit a 106 checkout to go one away and break back and stop the comeback with a 14-darter on double 18 after Clayton missed 86 on the bull.
