Michael van Gerwen will face Luke Humphries in a highly anticipated rematch after their tie at the Grand Slam of Darts which was won by the latter after an underpar display by the Green Machine.
This time at the
Players Championship Finals, it will be for a chance to reach the final with Van Gerwen looking to reclaim a tournament he has been dominant winning it six times. He saw off Danny Noppert in a 10-7 win who hadn't lost on the Main Stage in Minehead since 2020 after winning the UK Open this year.
He is a player with a good record against Van Gerwen but that did not prove to be a deciding factor with breaks of throw being the main barometer.
Early on, Noppert took the lead and went 3-2 up and continued to stretch that lead until 5-4 when Van Gerwen took a 12-dart break and at the interval took out 97 to consolidate.
From there on, Noppert was chasing the game with Van Gerwen continuing to hold. Missing darts to hold himself, Noppert was broken again but Noppert hit back with a 123 on the bull.
Again he was broken though in the last leg with a 12-darter missing 170 for the bull and Van Gerwen returned for 87 for the win.
