Michael van Gerwen is showing ominous signs to begin his Premier League campaign as he tops the table after two weeks after an exceptional display to defeat Daryl Gurney in Nottingham.
Van Gerwen claimed a 7-1 win over 'Superchin' with a 105 average; as well as 7/11 on the doubles. Gurney on the other hand is down in last place with 0 points after a crushing defeat.
Van Gerwen was excellent in the early going smashing in a 104 checkout to double his lead and it was ominous from there as he raced into a 5-0 lead.
Gurney wasn't playing poorly as despite Van Gerwen averaging towards 105, he was on 98 but as he usually does MVG did the right things at the right moments and raced into a 5-0 lead as he headed towards a point.
Van Gerwen hit a 72 checkout from there to go to within a leg of the whitewash at 6-0 up as his average went down to 101.8 but he looked to be on his way to an assured victory.
Gurney finally saved his skin as he went 6-1 behind but that was only a consolation as Van Gerwen eased through the tie with a 7-1 win.
