Van Veen on his darts idol: ''Winning or losing, he doesn't care''

Gian van Veen is one of the new Tour Card holders on the PDC circuit this year. He is doing extremely well, including three 100+ averages at the UK Open and already a quarterfinal spot on the Players Championship circuit in 2023.

Viaplay got to know Van Veen during the UK Open. For example, Van Veen said he was still studying. ''I am now in the fourth year of the aviation academy.''

He also opened up about his darts idols. ''My idol back in the day was Gary Anderson. I used to always enjoy watching that,'' he said. However, he now has a new idol.

''That's Jonny Clayton now. That's a man who still sees (darts) as a hobby. I think that's fantastic. Winning or losing, he doesn't care and I think that's fantastic. I can enjoy that myself.''

Finally, Van Veen gave an insight into his big goal. ''The goal, of course, is to become a pro darter. I'm going to give it a shot over the next two years to see how far I can get. We'll see.''
