Veenstra dumped out by Host Nation Qualifier Smolik, Slevin denies home hero Sebesta as Vandenbogaerde wins Campbell thriller

Richard Veenstra's poor run on the European Tour continues after being dumped out by Dalibor Smolik in the opening round who showed glimmers last week against Chris Dobey but is on home turf this weekend at the Czech Darts Open.

Smolik was one of the Czech winners at the Host Nation Qualifier on Thursday and showed why against Veenstra.

With an average of 91 and a finishing percentage of no less than 85.7 percent, he beat the experienced Veenstra 6-4.

Mario Vandenbogaerde was too strong for Matt Campbell after a cracker. The Belgian survived two match darts in the 10th leg and then struck in the 11th leg with a 60 finish for the match.

Dylan Slevin also qualified for the second round in Prague at the expense of Filip Sebesta (6-3) in front of a heavily partisan crowd.
