Despite a brave effort,
Gary Anderson narrowly failed to win the thirteenth
Players Championship of the year. 'The Flying Scotsman' went down 8-7 against
Michael Smith in the final.
A remarkable moment played out in the 13th leg of the match. With the scoreline finely poised at 6-6, Smith was waiting on 32 when Anderson stepped to the oche without a checkout, on the bogey number of 162.
Anderson then proceeded to unorthodoxly throw three bullseyes in a row! His tactics worked as a perplexed Smith then missed three darts to take the leg to himself, allowing Anderson to return and snatch it via double 6.
In the end, however, it was to no avail for Anderson as Smith reigned supreme, winning the thrilling final 8-7.
