On a day of sporting magic with the World Matchplay, Euro 2024 and Wimbledon final, Dimitri van den Bergh struck first with some sporting perfection of his own with the first nine-dart finish of this year's World Matchplay.
Facing off against Martin Schindler and at a pivotal juncture in the tie as it sat at 3-3, Van den Bergh sent the crowd into raptures with the 141 combination shot to send out a statement. He went the back-to-back 180 route before treble 20, treble 19 and double 12 as the former champion sent the crowd and the commentators wild.
Eight have been thrown in World Matchplay history with the last being back in 2022 in the semi-finals for Gerwyn Price against Danny Noppert as he went the T19 first route and the first being Phil Taylor back in 2002. He now joins the annuls of darting history.
