Joe Cullen went out early at
Players Championship 23, but he at least had some reason to celebrate as he hit a
nine-dart finish against Jack Tweddell.
Cullen was 2-1 down against Tweddell and pinned it to get off the mark. He went the usual route of 180, 180, 141.
He then in the same game while 5-1 down to Tweddell nearly hit a second. He went seven darts into a perfect leg, but he failed to pin his second of the contest.
Albeit he did clean up in 11 darts. The irony too is that like many who hit nine-dart finishes, he went on to lose the match as he lost out 6-3.
From holiday to hotel for big names
He couldn't back up his perfect leg in Leicester and headed back to his hotel ahead of tomorrow as Tweddell moved through. So certainly the rough with the smooth for Cullen who has also just come back from
Marbella on holiday with Aspinall, Humphries and Clayton among others calling out MVG asking where he was.
Van Gerwen who also played today also went out early losing to Daniel Ayres. So not a great day for the big seeds with Gian van Veen also an early loser.
