Often the butt of the jokes when it comes to his five times in BDO and PDC that he reached the semi-finals of the World Darts Championship,
Wayne Mardle was stitched up royally by
Sky Sports.
On stage with Emma Paton and Mark Webster discussing the tie between Luke Littler and Gian van Veen, he hilariously masterminded his own downfall as the
Sky Sports team were quick on the mark to stitch him up.
"I've never been on the stage on World final night," jested Mardle interrupting Emma Paton. "This is something special."
Paton sarcastically said welcome. His strapline on
Sky Sports then changed to what he said prior: "Never been on stage for the World Championship Final."
Mardle lost in the semi-finals in the BDO back in 2001 as well as the PDC in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2008 famously losing to Kirk Shepherd in the semi-finals in the latter after being installed as the tournament favourite. Shepherd was ranked 142nd and was a rank outsider qualifier with Mardle having dumped out Phil Taylor previously to become favourite.
