James Wade claimed victory over John Henderson on the opening night of action at the World Grand Prix shedding a four year barren run of first round defeats.

Wade admitted afterwards in an interview with Live Darts that he is over the moon and that it is a massive thing for him. Despite that though he said that he isn't a fan of the first round format (first to 2) and that it should have been improved a long time ago to accommodate the big names.

'I'm over the moon. He played far better than I thought he would, I think he did a good job and I was lucky enough to get out of the starting blocks and did enough at the right times,' said Wade.

'I've played and had no result for the past four years so tonight was a massive thing for me. You get past kindergarten and you get the chance to play darts on the longer format.'

'I personally think it's a nonsensical format and should have been improved a long time ago, we shouldn't be playing this format 12 years later when we've proved it doesn't work for the top players.'
