Wade secures European Championship Quarter-Final spot with victory over Aspinall

James Wade is through to the European Championship Quarter-Finals after victory over Nathan Aspinall to conclude the afternoon session on Day Two in Oberhausen.

Wade was the champion two years ago in a time of the year where he usually produces his best darts and he edged past 'The Asp' in a 10-8 win with a 96.7 average and a high checkout of 161. He also capitalised on 8/27 on the doubles from Aspinall edging through with 40% himself (10/25).

It was evenly matched to begin the tie with Wade though capitalising on two missed darts at doubles from Aspinall to go into the break with the early lead at 3-2.

Aspinall kept just behind Wade at 4-3 down with a 14-darter pinning a 61 checkout but Wade regained a two-leg cushion with a 13-darter on double 20 to make it 6-4 at the next break.

Five missed darts at double when they returned saw Wade away and into a 7-5 lead but despite that Aspinall found a way to get to one behind again at 8-7 down pinning double 16.

Wade went one away though from there as Aspinall was down at 7/23 on the doubles, he kept in the match though as it was the Aldershot ace's turn to miss two match darts. Aspinall seized a reprieve and made it 9-8. He couldn't force a decider though with Wade pinning a 56 checkout to move through in Germany.
