Wade's World Championship wait goes on as Matt Campbell comeback dumps out the multiple time major winner

James Wade's wait for a World Championship title goes on after a brilliant Matt Campbell comeback has seen 'the Machine' become the first seed to drop out of Ally Pally this year.

Arguably the greatest player to never win a World Championship title, Wade took an early an early lead through some trademark Wade shots. Punishing some misses from Campbell, 'the Machine' fired in a pair of 100 checkouts en route to taking the opening set.

In set 2 though, Campbell began to fight back. Despite the losing the first leg of the set, the Canadian reeled off the next three in 15, 18 and 14 to level up the match at one set apiece.

Continuing to put the pressure on his opponent, Campbell took the opening leg of set 3 also. Wade though, held throw in leg 2 before firing in a spectacular 132 checkout on the bull to break the throw in leg 3. Cleaning up 49 for the set, Wade moved back into the lead.

Although the momentum seemed to be with Wade, Campbell responded expertly. The Canadian quickly reeled off three legs on the spin to take set 4 to nil and level up the match once again at 2-2.

With Campbell taking the opening leg of set 5, both players missed chances to take leg 2. Finally though, it was Campbell who took it on double 1 to move just a leg away from the win. Campbell wired double top for the match in the following leg, before Wade kept his cool to pin double 12 and stay alive. In the next leg though, Campbell made no mistake to claim arguably the biggest win of his career.
