Impressive Boris Krcmar sets up second round tie with Dirk van Duijvenbode at the World Darts Championship

Boris Krcmar has set up a second round tie against Dirk van Duijvenbode at the World Darts Championship after seeing off Keegan Brown 3-1.

Despite being introduced as the Croatian World Cup star and averaging nearly 20 points fewer than Krcmar, it was Brown who took the opening set in a deciding leg, thanks mostly to his perfect 3/3 on the doubles.

In set 2 however, Krcmar's better level began to shine through. Despite some profligacy on the outer ring, the Croatian raced through the set 3-0 to level up the match.

With Brown missing his first darts at double in the opening of set 3, Krcmar didn't let him off the hook, breaking throw. With the big Croat making it five legs on the spin in the following leg and a 106 finish giving him a sixth straight leg and the set, Brown looked in deep trouble.

Finally offering some resistance, Brown broke throw in the opening leg of set 4 with a 12-darter. Krcmar though broke straight back in the following leg with an 81 checkout but after he missed a dart to go a leg from victory, Brown punished and suddenly he was throwing for the set. After Krcmar took leg 4, a deciding leg was needed and pinning a Shanghai 108 on the 18s the Croatian set up a second round tie with Dirk van Duijvenbode.
