Wales’ duo
Gerwyn Price and Jonny
Clayton have set out an early marker at the
World Cup of Darts in Austria after
a whitewash win over Russia.
Price and Clayton averaged 96 and hit
five 180’s in a rampant display against Boris Koltsov and Aleksei Kadochnikov.
The former in particular showed great courage in playing after his father
passed away this morning.
It was an excellent start from
Wales who got about their business with a 130 from Clayton to complete a 12-darter.
Russia missed their chance to get off the mark and it was soon towards the
point of no return as Clayton pinned double 10 to make it 3-0.
Wales followed that up by hitting
back-to-back 180’s and despite Price not being able to go for the nine-darter,
Clayton took out 76 for an 11-darter to make it 4-0 and ‘The Iceman’ concluded
proceedings from there to set up the aforementioned tie with Scotland.
Also through are the German
pairing of
Max Hopp and
Gabriel Clemens who also were rampant in seeing off Finland
in whitewash win.
They also averaged 96 with their individual
averages standing at 100.81 and 90.86. In terms of doubles, they hit 42% each
with Finland failing to find the mark with 0/4 on the doubles. They will now
face Greece tomorrow.
