"We went for a Chinese and went back to the hotel and played a few cards" - Quiet celebrations for Henry Coates after PDC breakthrough

It was an absolute whirlwind of a week for Henry Coates who took the PDC Tour by storm after some electric displays won him Players Championship 25 in Hildesheim against Damon Heta. He explained what he did after winning the title amid a busy but extremely successful week for the 20-year-old.

Averaging over 106 in his quarter-final, Coates took down Jeffrey de Graaf 7-3 to blast into the final where he would play an absolute classic against the Aussie number one. After both players were on level terms, he made the break for it and mustered up some daylight against his more experienced foe.

He got the job done, averaging 104.88 compared to Heta's 106.11 to become the fifth player to win a PDC Ranking title without a Tour Card.

An achievement like that was one to celebrate, and Coates did but in a more mild manner. He still had PC 26 to compete in along with the Development Tour as well on that weekend. Speaking on the Weekly Dartscast, he touched on what he did.

"No, we went for a Chinese and went back to the hotel and played a few cards," he said. "There was some notable names joining him. "There was me, Nathan Potter, Charlie Manby and Nathan's mum and dad, so it was just a nice, relaxed night."

It was a massive breakthrough run for the young darter who has now firmly put himself on the map as another talent coming through the ranks.

More and more of the younger generation are picking up darts and throwing them in a competitive manner, and many of them are very good. With those staggering performances, Coates has showcased his ability despite not even having a Tour Card, only getting in through the mass withdrawals thanks to his ranking on the Challenge Tour Order of Merit.

As you would expect, there was a lot of support and congratulations heading his way with the Englishman stunned by the reaction. "Yeah, there was loads of support from everyone and congratulations," she stated. "It was quite overwhelming."

However, he showcased his mentality by already focusing on the next task at hand, not yet satisfied with his work as he continues to try and climb up the darting order. "But to be in that position is just another goal."

That title has put Coates in a glorious position. He is currently in the automatic qualifying places for both the PDC World Darts Championship and the Players Championship. He is in the latter stages of both and will need to earn some more ranking money to get himself into those events but it is a remarkable feat saying that he cannot regularly challenge on the PDC Tour. A name to keep an eye out for the future.
