Steve West is through to the second round at the 2020/21
PDC World Darts Championship and a clash with Peter Wright later this evening after easing past Indian Qualifier, Amit Gilitwala.
West won through 3-0 in sets despite not playing his best but only dropped one leg throughout as he will aim to dump out the reigning champion in the last tie of the night.
It was a routine start for West against Gilitwala as despite not settling to his best in the opening foray, he took the first set without reply with an average of just 80.5.
Gilitwala got off the mark to give himself some confidence but West diminished that for the time being as he smashed in a 96 on double 18, double 20 to make it 1-1.
A 180 from West and a double 10 saw him break throw and go one away from a two set lead despite an average still of 85. He concluded the set from there with a 180 and double 20 for a 13-darter.
This dominant display continued from West as he soon went one away with a 64 checkout. Gilitwala was punished after doing the hard work hitting treble 20 in a 120 checkout but went into the single five and West pinned double 10 to claim victory.
