Luke Littler has called out Andy Cornwall, an ex PDC Tour Card holder who now works with Mission Darts and also Darts Corner for berating him as a 'show off' and 'ridiculous' for playing in the World Youth Championship.
Cornwall also caused controversy in the mind of Littler for his view point on Stephen Bunting and where he stands. He said that Bunting won't win anymore majors due to where he stands as he assessed The Bullet with also a view to a similar but not drastic change in the mould of Wes Newton.
But this and also his comments on Littler who lost in the semi-finals to Beau Greaves irked the World Champion who also hit out at Martin Schindler on Sunday saying he lived rent free in the mind of the German and caused some on social media to say he shouldn't have access to the platform.
"Andy Cornwall (apparently a darts coach and does work for Darts Corner or something) seen he said something about Bunting yesterday about where he stands and stuff. Now saying stuff about me, what an absolute helmet of a bloke and I don't know him," wrote Littler on Instagram.
The comments he was referencing too in regards to himself were from the Mission Darts Podcast saying that it was very self centred and that he shouldn't be playing in the World Youth Championship.
“Ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous. It was a bit like, ‘look at me, look at me, look at me.’ Everything is about me. I didn’t like it one little bit," said Cornwall. "Somebody should have got hold of him and said, ‘you’re doing the wrong thing here, Luke. You’re taking away somebody else’s chance.
“You should not be playing in the youth anymore when you’re world champion.’”
A point which Matthew Edgar completely disagreed on saying that in his view he feels the opposite and that the eyes that it brought onto the event outweighed the opinion in regards to him being rightfully or wrongfully involved. “Okay. So I’m the opposite. Luke Littler, first of all, is of age to play in the Youth World Championship — so why not? Next thing, Luke Littler added credibility to the event.
“Beau Greaves versus Gian van Veen is now the final of that event. If that game was promoted as, ‘here’s the final, Gian van Veen versus Beau Greaves,’ you know for a fact the comment section would be, ‘it doesn’t matter, they’re only there because Luke Littler wasn’t.’
“So, by Luke Littler being in the event, it made that game more marquee. It’s made it better because Luke Littler was in the event — and he didn’t make the final. It still doesn’t matter who wins. He’s still the best player. It added media attention. This was on Sky Sports News, and every media outlet picked up on this story and added name value then to Beau Greaves and to Gian van Veen. So they all got picked up from it.
“So, everything is boosted by Luke Littler being in there, and that final now means so much more because he was in there. So, I think Luke Littler added to it. It didn’t take anything away.”
Albeit Cornwall wasn't convinced by Edgar's reasoning and said he was glad he got beat. “You’ve not convinced me. I don’t like it. I think he went to show off. I was glad he got beat.”
