Luke Littler took a bizarre swipe at Martin Schindler after the German quipped that neither William O'Connor nor the current World Champion could sustain the level over the course of a European Tour match.
Schindler was playing at the German Darts Championship and spoke to DartsNews about the match after his epic comeback which saw him overturn a 4-1 deficit to beat O'Connor 6-4. Spurred on by a brilliant crowd, he sealed the win much to their delight.
“He started very, very well – I took the first leg, and then there wasn’t much coming from me for a while,” Schindler said after the match to DartsNews exclusively. “He was absolutely ruthless, three legs in a row with 180s and 140s – you’re just chasing shadows at that point. But I knew he couldn’t maintain that level for the whole match – not even Luke Littler could – and he didn’t.”
But despite it seeming like a compliment and likely what Schindler intended, Littler didn't take it as such posting a screenshot of Schindler's comments in the article priorly referenced adding the caption. "Living rent free up there in that head."

World Cup of Darts

It is unclear, though, why this is the case with the duo not particularly having any forward-facing issues in the past. Schindler did team at the World Cup with Pietreczko as they dumped out England. A match full of boos and whistling has now seen Littler all but boycott Germany events as a result.
He was due to play this weekend, but withdrew some time ago and will be in Dortmund and Germany as a whole for the first time in a few months since the incident.
"I think it was definitely one of the best atmospheres we've had in a World Cup," Schindler said at the time to DartsNews in Germany at the World Cup. "Obviously we have to say that we don't approve of the whistling and booing.
"For us, we have to say it's not getting easier for us because our opponents are getting booed or whistled. So we still need to go out there and perform and we've done that.
"Both Lukes have been struggling as it seems and I think the day is done now for us and we are happy that we won that one."
Certainly one Littler will be asked about when he plays the European Championship next weekend. A rare weekend off for Littler and it seems he is still very much in the darting bubble.
