Gerwyn Price swept aside Brenton Lloyd with a 95 average to open his account at the Australian Darts masters. He won through 6-2 with back-to-back 13 darters and can now look forward.
Albeit after a travel nightmare he admits to get there and he hopes that with sleep, he can continue to improve and get to the point he needs to be. He now faces Damon Heta for a spot in the semi-finals as he aims to defy the home hero.
"I just want to get through the first round," said Price to Online Darts. "I haven't been playing too well the last couple of weeks especially in the ProTours so I just wanted to get a win under my belt and get a bit of confidence. Another nights sleep under my belt and I think I'll be better tomorrow (Saturday)."
"I couldn't be any flatter than what I am now. I'm absolutely shattered. The Matchplay is what it is, I tried my best but it just didn't happen and fingers crossed for the rest of the year, it will.
He was also asked amid all that about heading Down Under as he lamented the travel and the nightmare he had. "It probably is when you catch the right flights. But when you miss them and it takes 43 hours to get here, it probably doesn't help. I'm glad to get that first win under my belt and be more positive now heading into Saturday. Hopefully three games, pick up that trophy and give myself a boost.
Price sealed the Nordic Darts Masters earlier this season but by his own admission, he hasn't kicked on and he will hope to do that on Saturday morning when it continues as well as in New Zealand next week. But still performing amid travel woes, he can only get better from here on.
He will hope to do just that when he tackles 'The Heat' on Saturday for a spot in the semi-finals in Wollongong.
