Simon Whitlock moved past Dirk van Duijvenbode in a 6-2 win averaging 100 in the process and he will now face Peter Wright in the second round of 2022
Masters.
"I am over the moon with that performance, I've been working hard the last month, practicing at home and playing local stuff," said Whitlock post match.
"I know I need a big year this year so I've got to settle down with one set-up, play proper darts again. I'm ready."
Late call-up
On his late call-up, Whitlock said without wanting to be disrespectful, he hoped it would happen.
"I was a bit disappointed I just missed out and then I thought ah god I hope someone pulls out or something but not being disrespectful. It was fantastic to get the call."
Wright clash
He also hopes that Wright is tinkering and that he can take advantage as a result against the recent World Champion.
"Me and Peter have had some great games over the past 10 years and we'll see what happens. I'm feeling confident, I hope Pete changes his darts and he throws awful."
Not walking away and end of Unicorn
For 'The Wizard' though, he admitted he will not be walking away anytime soon from the sport.
"I'm never gone until I lose the love for the game. As long as I love this game, look out. I am not going anywhere."
But one aspect of the sport which is changing is the Unicorn dartboards which will not be at PDC tournaments after the Masters and Whitlock commented after he has received a lot of criticism for using his homemade points on the boards.
"That probably works good for me because I've had a lot of problems with the Unicorn board. Look at my game tonight, did I do any damage to the board? No and I'm still using the same points."
