Simon Whitlock has continued his role as spoiler by dumping out Peter Wright to reach the Quarter-Finals of the 2022 Masters where he will play Jose de Sousa tomorrow.

The newly crowned World Champion was using new darts which did not prove to be a fruitful move as Whitlock edged through in a 10-8 victory.

Wright using his Phil Taylor esque darts started well with a 92 checkout to hold and go 2-1 up with a 106.7 average. A 68 checkout saw an immediate reply for Whitlock at 2-2.

Whitlock messed up on a 71 checkout to break and Wright hit double eight to lead 3-2 at the break. ‘The Wizard’ held on return on double four to make it 3-3.

Wright missed the chance to hold but Whitlock missed his opportunity to break and ‘Snakebite’ pinned double two to go up 4-3. A 63 checkout on double 19 saw Whitlock level up again at 4-4.

Wright went into double one off a 66 checkout and handed Whitlock a break opportunity which he couldn’t grasp again. ‘Snakebite’ returned for double 19 but couldn’t pin that either and Whitlock finally broke on double 14 to make it 5-4.

Whitlock consolidated on double 16 to go 6-4 up. Wright held to go 6-5 down but Whitlock held throw with a 100 checkout to go 7-5 up.

A 171 to leave 94 and he pinned double 20 for another break to go 8-5 up. He smashed his barrel going for 80 to consolidate but Wright couldn’t pounce and Whitlock hit double 20 to go one away.

Wright breathed a sigh of relief after pinning an 80 checkout to hold. Wright applied pressure though breaking on double 16 to make it 9-7.

Whitlock busted 76 though in going for the match and Wright held throw on double eight. He hit a 180 but Whitlock pinned 65 on double six to move through.
