Simon Whitlock is through to the Quarter-Finals at the New South Wales Darts Masters after raising the roof in Wollongong sealing a fifth straight win over Michael van Gerwen.
Van Gerwen won in Townsville but will not be adding to his tally in Australia after being dumped out by 'The Wizard' in a last leg decider.
Missed doubles were a theme in the opening exchanges as Whitlock moved 2-1 up on MVG. But the latter soon led after Whitlock missed double 20 for a 105 checkout.
But it was the Dutchman's time to miss a dart at the double for a ton plus checkout with 130 going begging and Whitlock returned for double 10 at 4-4.
Van Gerwen made it five consecutive breaks of throw and looked to break the resolve of Whitlock as he went one away. But he missed a match dart and Whitlock saved his skin with an 88 checkout making it 5-5.
A superb decider for Whitlock though saw the Aussie ace hit a 74 checkout to seal it and send the crowd into raptures.
While Dimitri van den Bergh completed the line-up after seeing off DPA Qualifier, Raymond O'Donnell 6-3.
It was a win that Van den Bergh eventually sealed after initially going 5-0 up book ended with a 126 checkout but O'Donnell hit back with an 82 checkout before pouncing on missed match darts to make for an interesting conclusion to the tie.
But with O'Donnell only leaving 110 in a poor leg, Van den Bergh sealed it finally on double 16.
